**reminders and info**
The Shenandoah Valley Youth football League formed an investigative committee to review the misconduct that took place at the October 15, 2016 home game involving the senior team
coaches and parents. During this investigation it was discovered that the Senior Wild Hawks
team had been conducting, on a weekly basis, 3 “contact” practices and 1 “walk thru” practice
during the 2016 season. This was acknowledged by some of the coaches/officials involved.
This is a violation of Article III, Section K (Schedule, Time, Cancellation, and Practice). We
believe this was a blatant violation that not only exposed the players to more contact and a higher
risk of injury, but also provided extra practice time that was not available to other teams within
the Senior Division. There are very strong safety reasons for this rule and while nobody was
injured as far as we know, a fortunate result doesn’t excuse a blatant violation.
The S.V.Y.F.L By-Laws clearly state that only 2 contact practices and 1 non-contact practice are
allowed once games have started. This is well known to all coaches and league officials. While
this was misconduct on the part of the coaches, the players may have benefitted by having
additional practices, although we’re just glad nobody was hurt. Any team they would oppose in
the playoffs would be at a disadvantage, having had less practices so to this extent, the Senior
Wild Hawks have had an unfair advantage. Accordingly, the Board has decided the Wild Hawks
senior team will not be eligible for the 2016 playoffs. We do regret that some kids will play
less games because of this violation and the subsequent penalty, but breaking the rules must have
consequences, if the rules are to mean anything, most especially a rule designed as a safety
measure. It is hoped the coaches involved will use this as an opportunity to teach their players
at a young age that sportsmanship includes following the rules, whether players, coaches, or
The S.V.Y.F.L also decided that the entire F.R.Y.F.L will be placed on probation for 2 years as a
result of the above described incident and the misconduct of several coaches and Board members
during the October 15, 2106 incident. During this probationary period ending December 31,
2018 F.R.Y.F.L will retain all voting rights. However, if F.R.Y.F.L violates the bylaws during
the probationary period they will be subject to disciplinary actions up to and including removal
from the Shenandoah Valley Youth Football League.
